Our faith is backed by our actions.
Praise God everyone,
Last week, two people were found in the rubble left by the January 12th earthquake and its many aftershocks. Just as people thought all the living had been pulled out and death had stolen way, two more people reminded us of why we gave. They reminded us of why we did what we could, and why we cannot stop. There are still lives that hang in the balance and your help is increasingly necessary to reach those who are still on the brink.
The first shipment of the donated items left our premises on Monday, January 18th, when we were able to deliver boxes upon boxes and crates upon crates of items through Charity: Water of New York. Since that date, we have been sending more and more, shipments upon shipments directly to the people of Haiti.
Over 300 cases of water bottles, packages of medical gauze, ointment, personal and feminine hygiene products, bandages, medical tape, rubbing alcohol, latex gloves and many other items got to Haiti that week alone. Since then, we received word that our first large shipping container reached Haiti during the week of February 15th and Pastor Testar St. Victor was there to receive it. Two other containers are set to arrive in Haiti very soon. Due to the work of many in our area, food, water, medical and personal hygiene items, clothing and so much more will be reaching the people of Haiti. Our concerted efforts continue to be that deciding marker for some- life or death? All of this is because we started a simple effort on Thursday, January 14th and to date, we have collected hundreds of item donations and several monetary gifts, for which we are very grateful. However, we want to guarantee that as the news programs and many others leave and forget, we will not. Will you help us make that statement?
There are still those who are going without. There are millions in need in Haiti. They need to see and know that we have not given up hope on them. And we long to see them, and let as many as possible know that we will not give up on them. That said, we are thrilled to annouce we have had 46 people, many of whom are in the medical profession, sign up for the March 21-28, 2010 mission trip to Haiti. We have plans to feed at least 500 people, which comes out to $15.00 per person for a week's worth of food. We will be going specifically to Leogane, San Fille, and Cafou.
Your monetary donations will mean so much during this time. We do not want to send laborers without the right supply of items, and we also want to go with as many tents as possible, which will then be left for the people. Please give now, as we must make sure we are not going ill-prepared.
We ask, with the fullness of heart, that you do not turn your back on the people. There might still be some who wonder what their efforts can do. Whatever you can do will be appreciated. Many of you have already stood up and offered your support. Please do not stop now.
In His Love,
Beatrice
